Money Saving Ideas for Entrepreneurs: 6 Programs That Will Save You Money, Time and Your Sanity!

Heartfelt Copywriter Perth In small business none of us are working for free and the lower our overheads the less we need to earn to meet our goals.

Throughout my own small business and helping other small business owners I have come across a great list of resources to help keep businesses running smoothly. Most of what I use is either free or has a free option and they have all made my business and my client’s businesses so much easier.

So here are my top low cost business resources:

  • Canva for image creation – if you want to create beautiful social media graphics canva is my go to program. I have invested in the paid version of Canva purely because I like having my branding always easy to find. I also love the resizing option on the paid version and I use it for client work as well which saves them the cost. I used the free version successfully for a long time and for creating one size social media posts it is a fantastic tool.

Tip – if you are using the free version create one template with all your colours and then just copy it each time you want to create a new post, that way all your colours and fonts will be there ready for you.

  • Shannon Mattern’s WordPress Challenge – many small businesses can’t afford the big fees being charged for websites and many business owners would prefer to diy but don’t know where to start. When I set up my website the best tool available was Shannon Mattern’s 5 day wordpress challenge. With 5 days of easy to follow videos all you need is computer literacy and time, Shannon walks you through step by step.

Tip – spend some time thinking about what colours and fonts you want to work with prior to starting, then when you get to the design part you will be ready to go.

  • Affordable SEO analysis – if you can’t afford SEO help or have been burnt by dodgy operators Kate Toon is the woman for you. This one isn’t free but I think the value you get from this low cost course is exceptional. Kate’s course covers all the basics of SEO and is beneficial whether you intend to diy or hire someone to do your SEO for you.Perth Virtual Assistant - Affordable Copywriting and Social Media

Tip – make sure you join Kate’s facebook community, she shares lots of amazing ideas

  • Marketing tools – if you are unsure where to start with marketing Yael at Mix Savvy has an amazing resource library that you can sign up for. I also highly recommend Yael’s blog, as well as her own fantastic content she has lots of regular guest bloggers (like yours truly!)

Tip – there is a large amount of valuable content here, just start with one area and work your way through. It’s a marathon not a sprint 😉

  • Free Stock Images – there are quite a few free stock image websites so there is really no excuse to be illegally using someone else’s images. My favourite go to is Unsplash, simply type in the search term you are looking for and voila fabulous images.

Tip – keep your search terms short and if you can’t find anything try shortening them or use a variation ie woman/ women. Also try searching your brand colours for images that may suit, the image above is one of my brand colours which I used for International Day of the Girl Child and found on unsplash

  • Colour Picker – It can be frustrating to see a colour you love and be unable to replicate it but that is a problem of the past with Image Colour Picker, simply upload the photo or url and it will give you the colour codes straight away. It is free, easy to use and one of my favourite tools.

Tip – save the colours you love to a note on your computer, even the ones you just use sparingly so you always have them handy.

  • Natural Reader – how many times have you thought you have proof read something perfectly only to publish it and find errors. Sometimes no matter how many times you read something you skip the errors every time, which is where Natural Reader comes in! Simply download and then you can either copy your text in or upload a file and then a lovely person will read it aloud to you. I find this the absolute best way to pick up errors.

Tip – use the speed controls to get to a pace where you can hear a natural flow of words but also write down any corrections.

Small business doesn’t have to be hard or pricey, these tools are designed to give you great value for your money and still provide ease of use. If you are frugal on these things then you can use your money to more advantage elsewhere in your business – like creating an amazing brand.
